First post in the Year of the Dragon

I am soooooo sorry!!! I have a whole long list of excuses: moving houses, work with new responsibilities, cleaning, Australian Open, Chinese New Year, etc. I did not get a Chinese New Year, I was working. Nevertheless, Happy Chinese New Year to all!

To make myself feel better, I thought I would post something Chinese and I rarely do posts as such. Early this year (and I mean really early - 2/1/2012?), my housemates and I went for a New Year celebration at Fortuna Court.
Let's kickstart the meal with a hot and sour soup. =) This will always be my #1 soup to order at all times. Love it, and love it more with mooorrrreee red wine vinegar. People think I'm crazy.

Salt and pepper soft shell crab. Delish! FYI, I am annoyed with channel Seven for airing the race horses and Australian Open semi at the same time. Am currently watching Djokovic and Murray's match.

Peking ribs, if I'm not mistaken. Very much like Sweet and Sour Ribs- and a child in heart, I love such flavours. Just maybe, I preferred it not to be ribs. I have a love hate relationship with ribs.

And ooo... salt and pepper whitebait. You could tell we are such Asians, we ordered deep fried goodness in almost all the dishes. This item is not on the menu but on their specials board, I missed it one time.

Fried rice...but I do not remember what sort of fried rice it was. Hmrph. Upon realisation there wasn't any vegies, we did end up ordering one midway. By then, I was too hungry and too busy tucking in I did not take a picture of that.

I am glad I gave Fortuna Court another chance. I did not like it on my first visit and I have never gone back until recently. Possibly a 2 year gap in between the first and second visit?

Dreaming a little chocolate dream...

My colleagues and I were talking about an international food trip around Perth and we finally managed to get together for a Spanish dessert lunch a few weeks ago.

Yes, you read right. *Dessert* lunch. Four girls. Two plates of Fondue for Two. Yum!

Look at the melted chocolate dip. On the tasting plate, we have churros, bananas, nuts, caramel popcorn, strawberries, chocolate brownies, pretzels and marshy mallows! All worthy of chocolate dipping!

I thought we should have eaten a proper lunch first, but I am glad we didn't. I was stuffed and so hyped with sugar (and loaded with all those calories)!

Summer drinks

Dearest Perth, I thought the thunderstorms today would cool you down. Apparently not. Sitting outside on the rooftop bar of The Aviary after work was not a good idea. Even after two rounds of drinks did not help! Quite expensive too!

Vodka Lemon and Lime Bitters. $9.

Gingerale? Or Gin and Gingerale? I am not sure actually what was ordered. It was nice though.

Nevertheless, it was worth it; anything to celebrate one's going away. We will miss all of you. =(

Cheers for the new year!

Apologies for my 'disappearance' from the blogging world for such a long time. Things have been pretty hectic lately causing me to 'slack off'. But I promise, there will be lots of awesome posts throughout the year. Maybe that can be my resolution for 2012.

Thank you for reading Food Obsession and cheers to all of you! *raises glass*

My first ever sweet martini. A cool drink for the summer.
*Note: It didn't taste sweet at all! But as we always say, it's the company that you are with that matters. ^_^*

Pizzeria ristorante

So when rellies were here, I had to bring them to Amalfi's. The whole big drama of booking a week (or more!) ahead, just in case, as it was the Christmas holiday week.

As usual, they were packed. Now, what do I do while I wait patiently? Play with the camera =)

I fell in love with the Melanze since my first visit- battered eggplant fritters with sauce and shaved parmesan. Having said that, I thought it was a tad too oily this time around.

Verdura- roasted veg tossed in basil and pesto. A cousin of mine must have salad of some sort and the verdura obviously stood out a lot more than a garden salad.

Marinara pizza for some meat or should I say seafood? I have another cousin who is totally into meat and needs meat. It was only after ordering I realised I've ordered vegetarian dishes all the way.

Amalfitana- another dish I fell head over heels for. Onion dried tomato, egg plant, pinenuts, spinach, artichoke and oregano.

Got to love Amalfi's. Bookings essential.

You must be wondering what this is all about. This is how Jin feels most of the time =) Just joking. Click on the link and read other works of Allie's too.

Recap of rellies' visit

Rellies came to Adelaide for a visit, 29-31st Dec 2011. Glad they were here to end the year with me with a bang! They are very much foodies too, therefore much thought was given to the places we went.

1) Breakfast @ Zuma's, Central Market
I had to try the meat sugo (note: Chorizo involved). Loved it! Plus they've got beautiful poached eggs.

2) Dinner @ Almalfi's
Will do a proper post on Almalfi's later. Without a doubt, they are one of the better Italian places around.

3) Wine tasting and food demos
Honestly I did not try any wines of Jacob's, I was just entertaining myself with the views. My favourite place in Barossa is the Rockford winery and my favourite drink in summer you may ask; their Black Sparkling Shiraz =). I had to irritate the owner, however, by being absolutely disappointed for not having any duck eggs for sale.

Ice coffee at Maggie's with two scoops of ice cream!!! Look at the "fruit tree" too.

4) Dinner @ Sing Sing Chinese and Vietnamese Restaurant
Again, another proper post will be up later because they deserve it.

We obviously had a lot more than what was shown in the photos. Some pictures did not show up great and some I was too hungry to snap.

For now, look forward to the upcoming posts because there would be more special surprises. *pinky promise*

10th day of Christmas =)

and two days left =(
While we are still in the Christmas mood,

don't we all love creative ideas? A rudolph cookie made out of a gingerbread mould.
